Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?Yes! Research suggests that virtual psychotherapy sessions are equally effective to in-person sessions. Therapy outcomes seem to be more impacted by things like attendance, level of willingness, use of evidence-based therapies, and therapeutic alliance, and not whether it is conducted in-person or online. A few current resources/studies on the topic of virtual psychotherapy and their effectiveness: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0165032713005120?via%3Dihub www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/15228830802094429 www.annualreviews.org/doi/pdf/10.1146/annurev-clinpsy-021815-093006 This comes down to a matter of preference and not what is most effective. Your therapist will advise if virtual therapy is not right for you.

I’ve never done this before. What can I expect during an intake (initial) appointment?Fear and hesitation are two very common emotions when considering starting therapy. The reason our approach is different is we’ve developed a structured process that helps you to maximize your time in therapy, and ultimately an effective starting point to your desired outcome. To help you, here is a general step by step of what to expect during our intakes: You will meet your therapist and ask any questions or concerns you may have before starting. We call the intake an “information gathering session” since your therapist will be empathetically listening to your presenting issue, needs, and goals. By the end of an intake, your therapist will help you to identify two things: (a) Your goals (b) Introduce one or two evidence-based therapies they believe could be the right fit for you. This gives you the opportunity to make an informed decision for your care, ask questions, and understand the therapy you will be participating in before continuing.
-
I don’t know what my goals would be… Does this mean I’m not ready for therapy?Absolutely not. In fact, most of us don’t know what our goals are until we start the process. The intake walks you through goal setting, which offers you time and space to consider what your goals might look like with your therapist. And remember, goals can change over time! Nothing is ever set in stone.
-
Do I need a referral? We accept self-referrals. You do not need a referral from a health professional to access our care.
-
Do you accept insurance? How does it work?Yes, we do. Most insurance providers offer coverage for psychotherapy services. Please check with your insurance provider/policy to ensure coverage. Our team will provide a paid invoice that you can then submit to your provider for reimbursement. It’s that easy.
-
How many sessions will I need? How often will I be scheduling? The number of sessions as well as how often you choose to book varies from person to person. You and your therapist will work as a team to determine what works best for you, your needs, and therapeutic goals.
-
What are your fees? Is the intake fee different from a regular session fee?A 50-minute individual psychotherapy appointment is between 150$ - 190$ (depending on the individual therapists' fees and their specialized areas), including intakes. There is no longer HST on psychotherapy services. It is our utmost priority to ensure quality, ethical care. All of our therapists are highly trained and experienced in their designated area of interest.
-
What is the duration of an appointment? We offer two options: 50-minute sessions or 30-minute sessions. 30-minute sessions are 110$ +hst. If you are someone who struggles with focus and attention, the half hour option might work best for you. This is typically determined and explored during your intake with your therapist.

How do I know therapy will work for me?Therapy is a collaborative approach to your psychological well-being. There are a few key factors/questions to consider: For the therapist: is the therapist of your choice experienced/trained in what you’re looking for? Can the practice offer evidence-based therapies? This means; will you be participating in a therapy that has been proven to be effective through research? You, as the client: Am I committed to attending therapy as recommended by my team? Am I willing to gradually learn about myself and my surroundings as well as implement healthy change? Together: Are we a good match? Do I trust my therapist? Do I feel heard and safe? Do they have a balance between hearing my concerns and challenging me in healthy ways? The therapy experience is different for everyone. No one person, no matter how well trained, can guarantee or determine therapeutic outcomes. If you have concerns about your progress, always talk to your therapist.
